What do you love about OT?
My favorite thing about being an OT is getting so immersed in play with a kiddo that it doesn’t even feel like a therapy session! How did you choose this profession?
My father became blind and lost his right hand as a result of a grenade explosion when he was younger. Growing up with a disabled parent instilled in me many values – resiliency, open-mindedness, flexibility, among others. Watching my father navigate society’s attitudes of ableism often frustrated me, but it also empowered me. He works in vocational rehabilitation in Nebraska, and I often was exposed to the blind and visually impaired community through events, such as fundraising, conventions, and policy/advocacy. I knew I wanted to do OT to empower disabled individuals and their families to achieve their goals – whatever that may be and whatever is meaningful for them!
Why did you choose to become an OTAC board member?
I wanted to get involved with OTAC to help support advocacy efforts for our profession! Joining the board and witnessing what goes on behind-the-scenes has been inspiring. My hope is to continue learning from other board members, collaborating with practitioners and clients, and foster an inclusive environment to discuss EDJI-related policy/efforts!
What’s your favorite thing to do in Colorado?
I’m a big foodie – so I enjoy exploring new restaurants and cooking new recipes! I like to run, hike, travel, and spend time with family when I can too!
